TDH. Ticinese digital hub : analisi e progetto. Un nuovo spazio di produzione ed esposizione di digital art a Milano

The project parcel overlooks Via Vigevano and is located within the porta Genova / porta Ticinese area, between the Darsena and Via Tortona, an area rich of art spaces, artists' workshops, foundations, museums , cultural centres, and that recognised a great presence of workshops-ateliers of numerous artisans and artists that animated the neighbourhood in the past. Following an in-depth analysis of the entire city of Milan and subsequently zoomed into the area, it has been deduced that this presence was significant and identified one of the most important artistic and cultural centres of the city. Starting from these topics it has been decided to specify the project to a Digital Art based space, an artistic movement which is in continuous evolution, ever since the art form itself has emerged, starting from the early sixties and seventies of the twentieth century. However, in the global art scene, the presence of spaces entirely dedicated to this type of art is not a very incisive number and moreover, even though it has developed since the second half of the twentieth century, it has begun to take its own voice only with the new Millennium. Indeed, Milan has been the background of the Digital Week since two years, an event of international importance that hosts artistic and cultural episodes, within its most representative spaces, such as Triennale di Milano, Pinacoteca di Brera and many others. From these two concepts comes the idea of ​​the project, linked to the tradition of the place and therefore to the characteristics workshops-ateliers, and the innovation of Digital Art, thus going to think of a space both for production and exhibition of this artistic movement, which can become a place of artistic importance in Milan and more. The result is therefore to offer an innovative hub in which a contamination of ideas and different visions takes place. The project proposes a reconnection based on the concept of "traversability" of the lot. The subject of reconnection is presented as the creation of a passage between inside and outside, between Via Vigevano and the internal courtyard. The project is metaphorically inspired to the figure of a split stone that architecturally becomes geometry. The detachment of these two parts of stone, leads to the creation of a passage space that represents both an access and a space to go. The space evokes the image of a canyon which ends in an impressive and wide open space. The theme reported in the project is closely linked to the characterisation of the surrounding blocks, characterised by the presence of passages and corridors that lead from one space to another, creating unexpected sensations in their succession.

Il lotto di progetto affaccia su via Vigevano e si localizza all’interno dell’area di porta Genova / porta Ticinese, compresa tra la Darsena e via Tortona, una zona ricca di spazi dedicati all’arte, atelier d’artisti, fondazioni, musei, centri culturali, e che in passato riconosceva una grande presenza di botteghe-atelier dei numerosi artigiani e artisti che animavano il quartiere. A seguito di un’analisi approfondita sull’intera città di Milano e effettuato successivamente uno zoom sull’area, si è compreso come questa presenza fosse significativa e identificasse uno dei poli artistico-culturali più importanti della città. Partendo da tali ragionamenti si è pensato di specificare il tema di progetto indirizzandolo al tema della Digital Art, corrente artistica che è in continua evoluzione, sin da quando la forma d'arte stessa è emersa, a partire dai primi anni Sessanta e Settanta del Novecento. Tuttavia, nello scenario artistico globale, si vede la presenza di un numero poco incisivo di spazi interamente dedicati a questo tipo di arte ed inoltre, pur essendosi sviluppato già a partire dalla seconda metà del Novecento, ha iniziato a prendere voce propria solo con il nuovo Millennio. E’ infatti la stessa città di Milano che da due anni a questa parte fa da scenario alla Digital Week, evento di importanza internazionale che ospita episodi artistici e culturali, all’interno dei suoi spazi più rappresentativi, quali la Triennale di Milano, la Pinacoteca di Brera e molti altri ancora. Da questi due concetti nasce l’idea di progetto, legata alla tradizione del luogo e dunque alle caratteristiche botteghe-atelier, e all’innovazione della Digital Art, andando dunque a pensare uno spazio sia di produzione che esposizione di questo genere artistico, che possa diventare luogo di importanza artistica a Milano e non solo. Il risultato è quindi quello di offrire un hub innovativo nel quale avvenga una contaminazione di idee e differenti visioni. Il progetto propone un intervento di riconnessione che ha alla base il concetto di “attraversabilità” del lotto. Il tema della riconessione viene inteso come creazione di un passaggio tra interno e esterno, tra via Vigevano e la corte interna. La scelta è quella di basarsi sulla figura di una pietra spaccata che architettonicamente diventi geometria e che, attraverso il distacco delle due parti di pietra, porti alla creazione di uno spazio di passaggio che rappresenti poi un accesso e uno spazio da percorrere. Lo spazio che si viene a creare rievoca l’immagine di un canyon che al suo termine sorprende con l’arrivo nell’ampio spazio aperto. La tematica riportata nel progetto è strettamente legata alla caratterizzazione degli isolati circostanti, connotati nella loro totalità dalla presenza di passaggi e corridoi che conducono da uno spazio all’altro creando, nel loro susseguirsi, sensazioni inaspettate.
