Romano community hub. Sport e socialità per la rigenerazione urbana

The basis of this study is the objective of recovering and regenerating an historically important swimming pool for the city of Milan: The '‘Guido Romano’ ’pool. It is located in the Città Studi district in Milan, known as a district of great social and residential activity. In fact, in addition to several residential units, the district hosts many sports centers, theaters, restaurants and above all university centers. It is in fact with the Polytechnic of Milan that the swimming pool shares the border. Having resided for several years in the neighborhood and as the whole area is mainly active in the summer thanks to the use of the swimming pool, I decided to "reactivate" it in all seasons of the year. This was done by studyng a well-known theme, especially in Europe: urban regeneration, thanks to sport, seen as a tool for social inclusion. The design intent was to offer more services to the neighborhood community, also thanks to an infrastructure enhancement, and to create a new urban centrality in it. Therefore at the base there was, both a study of the history of the Città Studi district and the areas surrounding it, and an accurate and in-depth study of similar interventions already carried out. These supported and strengthened the idea of regenerating a space initially designed to host a single function, giving it a new life and making it functional throughout the year. From the analysis of the context, I found that the sports centers in the neighborhood are heavily frequented by both families and young students / workers in and around the neighborhood. In addition, the area hosts various cultural activities that make it active throughout the year, ensuring a strong turnout for the new center. The swimming pool area, enjoying a lot of 14,784 square meters, had been studied in the years of fascism as an area of water activity for recreational purposes. Being one of the first swimming pools in the city, it was designed to accommodate many more people than it currently hosts. The development of the company requires an ever more versatile environment and therefore my project is not only guarantees respect for the past by maintaining and renovating the same swimming pool, but also wants to bring the area back to its original ardor by combining innovative materials that recreate the colors and sensations of the time, giving the citizens of the neighborhood a place to carry out changing activities in every season and in every part of the day All designed with minimal impact on environmental and landscape conditions, respecting the context and leaving a constant reminder between past and present.

Alla base di questo studio c’è l’obiettivo di recuperare e rigenerare una piscina storicamente importante per la città di Milano: La piscina ‘‘Guido Romano’’. Essa è situata nel quartiere di Città Studi a Milano, conosciuto come quartiere di grande attività sia sociale che residenziale. Infatti il quartiere ospita oltre che diverse unità residenziali, molti centri sportivi, teatri, ristoranti e sopratutto poli universitari. E’ infatti con il Politecnico di Milano che la piscina condivide il confine. Avendo risieduto diversi anni nel quartiere e poichè l’intera area è attiva principalemnte in estate grazie all’utilizzo della piscina, ho deciso di “riattivarla” in tutte le stagioni dell’anno. Questo è avvenuto traendo ispirazione da un tema molto conosciuto, soprattutto in ambito europeo: la rigenerazione urbana, grazie allo sport, visto come strumento di inclusione sociale. L’intento progettuale è stato quello di offrire maggiori servizi alla comunità del quartiere, anche grazie ad un potenziamento infrastrutturale, e creare in essa, una nuova centralità urbana. Pertanto alla base c’è stato, sia uno studio della storia del quartiere di Città studi e delle zone limitrofe ad essa, sia uno studio accurato ed approfondito di interventi simili già realizzati. Questi hanno sostenuto ed avvalorato l’idea di rigenerare uno spazio studiato inizialmente per ospitare una sola funzione donandogli una nuova vita e rendendolo funzionale in tutto il corso dell’anno. Dalle analisi del contesto e dei quartieri limitrofi ho constatato come i centri sportivi presenti nel quartiere siano fortemente frequentati sia dai nuclei famigliari che dai nuclei di giovani studenti/lavoratori del quartiere e non. Inoltre l’area ospita diverse attività culturali che lo rendono attiva in tutto il periodo dell’anno, garantendo una forte affluenza al nuovo centro. L’area della Piscina, godendo di un lotto di 14.784 mq era stata studiata negli anni del fascismo come area di attività acquatica a scopo ludico. Essendo una delle prime piscine in città, era destinata ad ospitare molte più persone di quante non ne ospiti attualmente. Lo sviluppo della società impone una sempre più versatilità degli ambienti e per tanto il mio progetto vuole, non solo garantire il rispetto per il passato mantenendo e ristrutturando la stessa piscina, ma vuole riportare l’area all’ardore iniziale coniugando materiali innovativi che ricreino i colori e le sensazioni del tempo, dando ai cittadini del quartiere un luogo dove svolgere attività mutevoli in ogni stagione e in ogni parte del giorno. Il tutto pensato con il minimo impatto sulle condizioni ambientali e paesaggistiche, nel rispetto del contesto e lasciando un richiamo costante tra passato e presente.
