On the one hand by living in an ancient structure by converting it into a place to stay, and on the other by building a connection between memory and culture.

Abstract
The “Via del Caffè” can be historically recognized as the link created in 1870 to connect the Brazilian hinterland and the Santos’ harbor, in order to export coffee . Within this territory it is still possible to find, even today, those picturesque crops linked to coffee that form the backdrop to Brazilian rural architecture. The strategy is well defined: to explore the characteristics of these places, tropical paradises located in the Paulist hinterland, and their history. This is how San Carlos is, in its infinite facets of these lands and the elements that make it unique. It continues with considering the architectural typology of the area, in such a way as to identify the cornerstones of rural architecture, recognizing that they are the real engine of development and a prerequisite for returning to relive these places. The study, once carefully investigated the architecture and identified the Fazenda do Pinhal as the core of the project, aims to detect the elements that constitute it, conceiving three different realities: one that has remained frozen to a materialized past in the objects that make up, one distorted by its essence and the last one abandoned. This process therefore led us to conceive a project on an architectural scale that deals with a topic in an ancient context, with an interesting story to tell and a clear problem of the relationship between old and new, but without making it become a restoration project. A double intervention, two different approaches, which aim to revitalize a rich place in architecture, history and nature. On the one hand by living in an ancient structure by converting it into a place to stay, and on the other by building a connection between memory and culture.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
