The Varese area, a portion of the Insubric region, between Ticino and Olona, is one of the most industrialized areas in Italy. The complexity and inhomogeneity of the landscape due to the presence of important infrastructures was found through morphological, settlement and hydrographic analyzes. The study focuses on the relationship between industrial spaces and infrastructural axes with the aim of introducing a circular economy system that allows collaboration between companies with a view to recycling industrial waste. The thesis deals in particular with manufacturing activities located in the area between Valle Olona and Val d’Arno called "Industrial Trapezium of Varesotto". The intent is to establish a network between the active companies of the three most developed industrial sectors within it: the plastics, textiles and metal sectors. The poles of this network are made up of the Eco Hubs which act as ignition switches of the circular economy process. The location of these strategic points takes place through the use and redevelopment of five appropriately selected abandoned industrial spaces. The work explores the design of a plastic Eco Hub in the area of the former Sottrici paper mill, between the towns of Lozza and Vedano Olona. The case study involves the construction of three centers, the Center for the Collection, Recycling and Reuse of industrial waste materials which correspond to three ways of acting to give a second life to waste. The intervention strategy aims to offer a circular economy application model that functions as an initial building block for a broader exchange model that involves not only materials and waste but also other important elements such as energy and water.

Abstract
The intervention strategy aims to offer a circular economy application model that functions as an initial building block for a broader exchange model that involves not only materials and waste but also other important elements such as energy and water.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
