The Zhedong Canal, being an importance part of the Grand Canal, as well as the bridge connecting the Grand Canal with the Maritime Silk Road, flows more than two thousand years. It has received more and more attention recently. With the international recognition of cultural heritage experiencing a perspective evolution especially from a "point" or "surface" to linear cultural heritage, the valorization of cultural heritage in the Zhedong Canal stand at a new stage. This work is dedicated to identifying an integrated and collaborative valorization approach of cultural heritage in the Zhedong Canal. Documentary method, field trip method and comparison method are employed to study the subject. In the first chapter, the background information will be introduced. Shifting to chapter2, the concept related to canal heritage and valorization will be outlined, then some words will be spent on the research status referred to both the linear cultural heritage and the Grand Canal. An overview on the history evolution, heritage composition and values follow subsequently. The general characteristics can be concluded then. Then benchmark studies of valorization of cultural heritage will be presented with the Canal du Midi, the Singel Canal and West Bund Cultural Promenade respectively. They basically partly coincide with the Zhedong Canal but heterogeneous with each other. Some guidelines to follow for the process of a valorization project will be outlined. Taking all the research done above, the direction of the valorization approach could be summarized in the following two aspect: i. An integrated strategy consisting of Creation of a cultural brand; Local enhancement; Promotion of local industries; Technological upgrade and cultural inheritance. The valorization tactics are supposed to integrate the distributed routes and resources and promote the development of local environment and industries, while the fundamental thing for enduring vitality is conservation and inheritance by innovative and smart tools. ii. A collaborative valorization system concerning public sectors, private sectors and people. Governments, as policy makers and chief executors, should actively seek partnerships with private companies to take advantage of their resources. The involvement of general public is also necessary and enables the heritage to be a true common resource. In the end, after SWOT analysis and future prospect, the digitalization technology and heritage education on young generations are emphasized.
