As in most Italian alpine areas, Valle Cenischia, located in Bassa Valle di Susa, has been the victim of a gradual abandonment of land by the population after the Second World War. This phenomenon, accelerated by strong urban industrialisation, had a negative effect on the environmentally friendly development and a progressive closure of traditional local activities. Today, the area is characterised by a minimal flow of tourists mainly based on proximity. This condition is the starting point for a design reflection that aims to enhance and safeguard the environment leading to the revitalisation and enhancement of the place. The aim of the thesis is to get in touch with nature without denaturing it, but enhancing it through different interventions that allow a better use of the place. In the proposed project, the relationship established between architecture and landscape is interpreted in two different ways: first of all, human intervention aims to enhance nature by means of well-considered projects developed with respect for the site; secondly, the design activities aim to guide users towards a conscious use of nature, contemplating it, walking through it and listening to it. This takes the form of punctual elements distributed along the ascent to Lake Arpone and, in the area pertaining to it, of small architectures that allow a prolonged stop. Experiential tourism, defined as responsible and sustainable tourism, guarantees an intimate, unique, different and unrepeatable experience by bringing the individual into close contact with the environment. In Bassa Valle di Susa, the hike up to Lake Arpone allows the traveller to explore lesser-known, and therefore more “real”, places.

Abstract
In Bassa Valle di Susa, the hike up to Lake Arpone allows the traveller to explore lesser-known, and therefore more “real”, places.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
