The regermination of Nanting : an experiment on renewing urban villages in Guangzhou

The project is started with the background of the unique phenomenon of the urban village in China and aims to explore a possible way to renew them by re-understanding this identity and using the method of micro-renewal. The design improves the Nanting Neighbourhood through the cooperation between different groups and the renovation of the existing sites. And it results in transforming the unused floor of the indoor commercial street into a new space for the young people, and also readapting the original ferry station into an exhibition venue, interpreting the local history and culture. Planned Public projects are reclaiming the public nature of the ancestral temple. The project is an experiment on using the methods of micro-renewal in dealing with the urban villages' problems and the design outcome proves its feasibility effectively.

Il progetto nasce sullo sfondo del fenomeno unico dei villaggi urbani in Cina e mira a esplorare un possibile modo per rinnovarli ricomprendendo questa identità e utilizzando il metodo del micro-rinnovamento. Il progetto migliora il quartiere di Nanting attraverso la cooperazione tra diversi gruppi e il rinnovamento dei siti esistenti. E si traduce nel trasformare il pavimento inutilizzato della strada commerciale interna in un nuovo spazio per i giovani, e anche riadattare l'originaria stazione dei traghetti in una sede espositiva, interpretando la storia e la cultura locale. I progetti pubblici pianificati stanno rivendicando la natura pubblica del tempio ancestrale. Il progetto è un esperimento sull'utilizzo dei metodi del micro-rinnovamento nell'affrontare i problemi dei villaggi urbani e il risultato progettuale ne dimostra efficacemente la fattibilità.
