Joint implementation of sustainability and resilience practices in supply chains : a study on the performance of food manufacturers and retailers in the COVID era

This paper discusses the joint implementation and the reciprocal impacts of sustainability and resilience practices in the food supply chain. The Covid-19 pandemic intensified the attention towards the risks of disruptions in every node of the SCs. Analyzing data from financial and non-financial reports of food manufacturers and retailers, a comprehensive framework is used to identify adoption and impacts of 24 categories of practices. The study argues the benefits of integrating the two dimensions in relation to the Covid disruption, facing a lack of conformity in the approach towards resilience.

La tesi discute l'implementazione congiunta ed i reciproci impatti delle pratiche di sostenibilità e resilienza nelle supply chain alimentari. La recente pandemia ha intesificato l'attenzione verso i rischi di disruption in tutti i nodi delle filiere. Dall'analisi di report finanziari e non di aziende manifatturiere e distributrici nel settore alimentare, viene compilato un modello per identificare l'adozione e gli impatti di 24 categorie di pratiche. La ricerca discute i benefici dell'integrazione delle due dimensioni di sostenibilità e resilienza nel contesto della risposta alla minaccia del Covid, riscontrando una mancanza di conformità nell'approccio delle aziende riguardo le pratiche di resilienza.
