The main goal of this thesis is the mathematical study of a classical model for liquid crystal flows. We start by deriving a simplified version of Ericksen-Leslie model and then we study the well-posedness both in the 2D and 3D case. We also investigate the asymptotic behavior of the non-autonomous problem. First, we prove the existence of the global attractor in the 2D case under general hypothesis for the non-autonomous forcing terms. We then show the existence of exponential attractors when the forcing terms are quasi-periodic. The thesis is accompanied by some numerical simulations, which underline strengths and limits of the simplified model adopted.

Abstract
The main goal of this thesis is the mathematical study of a classical model for liquid crystal flows. We start by deriving a simplified version of Ericksen-Leslie model and then we study the well-posedness both in the 2D and 3D case. We also investigate the asymptotic behavior of the non-autonomous problem. First, we prove the existence of the global attractor in the 2D case under general hypothesis for the non-autonomous forcing terms. We then show the existence of exponential attractors when the forcing terms are quasi-periodic. The thesis is accompanied by some numerical simulations, which underline strengths and limits of the simplified model adopted.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
