The manufacturing sector, with its capacity to create and distribute wealth, is increasingly returning to the heart of Italy’s growth strategy, thanks also to the deep digital transformation occurring. Among emerging technologies, the Industrial Internet of Things stands out for enabling rapid gains in efficiency and effectiveness, delivering quick returns on investment. This thesis pursues two objectives. First, it analyzes the state of the art of Industrial IoT, examining how the Italian scenario compares to those abroad. Second, it investigates how various IIoT benefits are realized within the scopes of Industry 4.0 and what levels of technology are typically required to achieve them. The research began with a literature review of academic sources and online articles. This was followed by a census based on an updated database from the IoT Observatory of Politecnico di Milano, paramount for the comparative analysis of the Italian and international landscape. Subsequently, a framework was developed to map IIoT benefits according to which Industry 4.0 scopes they cover best and to their required technology levels. This work contributes by offering an empirical overview of IIoT solutions and providing a practical framework for understanding how IIoT benefits are deployed in real-world industrial contexts.

Abstract
This work contributes by offering an empirical overview of IIoT solutions and providing a practical framework for understanding how IIoT benefits are deployed in real-world industrial contexts.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
