This study focuses on the potential of upgrading biogas to biomethane and his use as a vehicle fuel. Upgrading consists of three phases: cleaning, methane enrichment and compression. After an analysis of the biogas mean composition, several technologies for biogas cleaning are described. Next are presented five possible upgrading plant configurations and an energetic comparison is performed. Finally the economic effects of utilizing compressed biogas are discussed and the economic incentive to promote this technology is determined. An important result is that the expense for provide incentives for 1 MWh of biomethane turns out to be about one-third of that for 1 electric MWh.

Abstract
This study focuses on the potential of upgrading biogas to biomethane and his use as a vehicle fuel. Upgrading consists of three phases: cleaning, methane enrichment and compression. After an analysis of the biogas mean composition, several technologies for biogas cleaning are described. Next are presented five possible upgrading plant configurations and an energetic comparison is performed. Finally the economic effects of utilizing compressed biogas are discussed and the economic incentive to promote this technology is determined. An important result is that the expense for provide incentives for 1 MWh of biomethane turns out to be about one-third of that for 1 electric MWh.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
