This work is concerned with vortex induced vibration of slender structures; it is focused on the dynamic response of a tower of the Forth Replacement Crossing (FRC), a cable-stayed bridge which will be erected in Edinburgh, whose confirmatory tests were performed in the Politecnico di Milano Wind Tunnel. The aerodynamic behavior of the tower is characterized via static and dynamic sectional model tests; the whole structure response has been investigated with the full aeroelastic model of the tower in a stand-alone configuration. The aim is to numerically reproduce the non-linear forces dued to vortex shedding through the ‘Equivalent oscillator’ , a physical model which operates in time domain, which has been identified on the sectional test results. The Equivalent oscillator has been used in a tridimensional finite element model of the tower to reproduce the vortex shedding force distribution on the structure and its response has been compared to the one measured on the aeroelastic model.

Abstract
The Equivalent oscillator has been used in a tridimensional finite element model of the tower to reproduce the vortex shedding force distribution on the structure and its response has been compared to the one measured on the aeroelastic model.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
