In this thesis has been studied the propagation of a crack in a railway axles, taking advantage of the most non destructive tests and assuming the use of acoustic emission as a form of monitoring component’s integrity. The railway axle studied, built with steel A4T, has been rolled: this fact means that the mechanical caracteristics are more complex than ones of a railway axle not rolled, above all for the propagation of a crack. Finite element models and misurations of residual stresses are done to describe the stress state in the section where the defect has been created artificially and, with the purpose to analyzing the results obtained from the tests, it is finally produced a prediction model capable of estimating crack’s speed of propagation.

Abstract
In this thesis has been studied the propagation of a crack in a railway axles, taking advantage of the most non destructive tests and assuming the use of acoustic emission as a form of monitoring component’s integrity. The railway axle studied, built with steel A4T, has been rolled: this fact means that the mechanical caracteristics are more complex than ones of a railway axle not rolled, above all for the propagation of a crack. Finite element models and misurations of residual stresses are done to describe the stress state in the section where the defect has been created artificially and, with the purpose to analyzing the results obtained from the tests, it is finally produced a prediction model capable of estimating crack’s speed of propagation.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
