Gradus ad Parnassum

"The city could never escape its history," Carlo Aymonino. The project is in the city of Piacenza, a Roman established dwelling, therefore it takes inspiration from the fascinating Roman grid, from the rigidity of the "insulae" looked from outside, and the total playfulness when zoomed in. However, it is an interpretation of the block: the outer walls become fully transparent, with closed solids that contain specific programs inside. The project furthermore questions the idea of pathological monumentality, and creates a viewing tower that is a glass box going high in height with a central void: as much as it takes from the sky in height, it gives back in depth.
