Edoardo De Nari tra gli architetti italiani a Istanbul nella prima metà del XX secolo

This Thesis aims to be a work of historical research on a very important discovery for Italian architecture in Istanbul, namely the discovery of documents attesting the life and works of the Italian Edoardo De Nari. This new revelation sheds light on aspects of the Istanbul history of architecture in the era between the end of the nineteenth century to the first half of the twentieth century, which modify in part the history itself. The discovery of many drawings of this mysterious character helps to know the real Autography of many architectures that we don’t know the author, to know the architect of villas wrongly attributed and finally to better understand the relationships between professionals working of Istanbul at that time as Raimondo D’Aronco, Giulio Mongeri, Guglielmo Semprini and then Edoardo De Nari. Secondly, the importance of this discovery is related to the comprehension of an era little known but very delicate that sees change the Istanbul society, undergoing a strong Westernization, supported by President Ataturk and the transition from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic of Turkey. The information on De Nari as well as the study of its projects help to carry out an architectural and social analysis of the period, in this case with regard to the bourgeois world in the Pera area, which formed the socio-economic heart of Istanbul and the environment in which De Nari was inserted by participating often as an active and influential component.

Questa Tesi vuole essere un lavoro di ricerca storica relativa ad una scoperta molto importante per l’architettura italiana a Istanbul, cioè il ritrovamento dei documenti attestanti la vita e le opere dell’italiano Edoardo De Nari. La nuova rivelazione fa luce su aspetti della storia dell’architettura istanbuliota del periodo, che va dalla fine del XIX secolo alla prima metà del XX secolo, che modificano in parte la storia stessa. Il rinvenimento di molti disegni di questo misterioso personaggio permettono infatti di scoprire la reale Autografia di molte architetture di cui non si conosceva l’autore, di dare un nome all’architetto di ville erroneamente attribuite e infine di capire meglio i rapporti tra i professionisti operanti ad Istanbul in quel periodo come Raimondo D’Aronco, Giulio Mongeri, Guglielmo Semprini e infine Edoardo De Nari. Secondariamente l’importanza di questa scoperta è legata alla comprensione di un’epoca poco conosciuta ma assai delicata che vede cambiare la società istanbuliota, subendo una forte occidentalizzazione, sostenuta dal presidente Ataturk e il passaggio dall’Impero Ottomano alla Repubblica di Turchia. Le informazioni su De Nari così come lo studio dei suoi progetti aiutano a portare avanti un analisi architettonica e sociale del periodo, nella fattispecie per quanto riguarda il mondo borghese della zona di Pera, che ha costituito il cuore socio-economico di Istanbul e l’ambiente in cui De Nari si è inserito partecipandovi spesso come componente attivo ed influente.
