The discussion of this academic work has the aim to analyze one of the historical figures belonging to the Modern Movement, which, though not well known, has left its mark , at least in their professional field:landscape. Carl Theodor Sørensen, danish landscape architect, that with its more than two thousand projects scattered throughout its national territory, has contributed to the definition of the role of the landscape architect, its scope, its education field; precursor of performance art, he was part of the first generation of the Modern Movement.C. T. Sørensen (1893-1979) was one of the leaders of early Modernism in landscape architecture. His work is virtually unknown outside of his native Denmark. This text examines his writings in depth and presents some of the more than two thousand works constructed just for an English-speaking audience.His interpretation of the history of landscape related to the concept of architecture is valid for anyone in search of the roots of early modernism. Equally important are his strong views on the same landscape architecture as a form of public art. His works, constructed and written, are a testament to the importance of good design.
La trattazione di tale lavoro accademico ha l’intento di analizzare una delle figure storiche appartenenti al Movimento Moderno che, seppur poco conosciute, ha lasciato il segno per lo meno nel proprio ambito professionale: il paesaggismo. Si tratta di Carl Theodor Sørensen, paesaggista danese che con i suoi più di duemila progetti disseminati in tutto il suo territorio nazionale, ha contribuito in maniera deteminante alla definizione del ruolo dell’architetto paeaggista, al suo campo d’azione, alla sua formazione accademica; anticipatore della performance art, ha fatto parte dei grandi della prima generazione del Movimento Moderno.C. Th. Sørensen (1893-1979) è stato uno dei leader del primo Modernismo in architettura del paesaggio. Il suo lavoro è praticamente sconosciuto al di fuori della sua nativa Danimarca. Questo testo esamina i suoi scritti in profondità e presenta alcune tra le oltre duemila opere costruite per un pubblico anglofono. La sua interpretazione della storia del paesaggio legata al concetto di architettura è valida per chiunque sia alla ricerca delle radici del primo modernismo. Altrettanto importanti sono le sue forti opinioni sulla stessa architettura del paesaggio come forma di arte pubblica. Le sue opere, costruite e scritte, sono la testimonianza dell’importanza di una buona progettazione.
