Unità abitativa e spazi collettivi per studenti e ricercatori, nel campus dell'American College di Thessaloniki, Grecia

This work is done on a node of the mesh instructive contemporary urban Thessaloniki-Greece, through the design of a building of residential character, as a complementary service within the campus of the American College of Thessaloniki, on land adjacent owned by the same entity . Studying: the historical context, with the legacy and influence the multicultural, rich and meaningful the city in a large geographical area through the 23 centuries of its history; the productive and social context, noting how it was affected, and how it has developed over a long period, from the cosmopolitan character of the city and from extroversion; the possibilities offered by the city’s road network and accessibility and observing how they distribute the various activities, ie productive, educational and cultural activities within the urban fabric; as the current economic and social reality does not allow investments in the public due to the lack of financial resources and investment. In a period of economic crisis and where energy saving and reuse of materials are always at the center of ethical debate, Expo has decided to donate the structures of the clusters to Greece, a country severely affected by the economic crisis and a strong drain “brains. “ The cluster expo are temporary structures: at the end of the World Fair of 2015 will be decommissioned. The dry structures can be retrieved and reused almost entirely in other areas and to other destinations if they are compatible with the structural loads for which they were calculated. The aim is therefore to: increase with the construction of the building (built according to standards that will lower their production costs), in a period of economic weakness, the arrival of foreign students in the city and strengthen the education sector, making it a key catalyst with a ‘inflienza positive impact on the cultural sector of the city and with possible consequent economic benefits; design and build special buildings in the contemporary Greek reality, with advanced skills and support from Italy, also through private funds.

Con questo lavoro si interviene su un nodo istruttivo contemporaneo della maglia urbana di Salonicco-Grecia, attraverso la progettazione di un edificio di carattere residenziale, come servizio complementare all’interno campus del collegio Americano di Thessaloniki, in un terreno adiacente di proprietà dello stesso ente. Ci si concentrerà su: il contesto storico, con l’eredita e l’influenza multiculturale, ricca e significativa della citta in un vasta area geografica attraverso I 23 secoli della sua storia; il contesto produttivo e sociale, osservando come è stato influenzato, e come si è sviluppato nel corso di un lungo periodo, dal carattere cosmopolita e dall’estroversione della città; le possibilità offerte dalla viabilità della città e dall’accessibilità e osservando come si distribuiscono le varie attività, ovvero produttive, educative e culturali all’interno del tessuto urbano; come la realtà economica e sociale attuale non permette investimenti di carattere pubblico a causa della mancanza di risorse finanziarie e di investimenti. In un periodo di crisi economica e in cui il risparmio energetico e il riutilizzo dei materiali sono sempre al centro del dibattito etico, Expo ha deciso di donare le strutture dei cluster alla Grecia, paese fortemente colpito dalla crisi economica e con una forte fuga di “cervelli”. I cluster di expo sono strutture temporanee: al termine dell’esposizione universale del 2015 saranno smantellate. Le strutture a secco possono essere recuperate quasi per intero e riutilizzate in altre zone e per altre destinazioni se compatibili con i carichi strutturali per cui sono state calcolate. Si vuole quindi arrivare a: aumentare con la realizzazione dell’edificio (costruito secondo canoni che ne abbassino i costi di realizzazione), in un periodo di debolezza economica, l’arrivo di studenti stranieri in città e potenziare il settore dell’istruzione rendendolo un fattore catalizzatore con un’inflienza positiva sul settore culturale della città e con possibili e conseguenti benefici economici; progettare e realizzare speciali costruzioni nella realtà greca contemporanea, con competenze avanzate e supporto dall’Italia, mediante anche fondi privati.
