Aim of this thesis work is the e fficiency improvement of a computer program for the simulation of Hele-Shaw cell flows. The cell consists of two parallel plates, separated by a small gap fi lled with a highly viscous fluid; a less viscous fluid is then injected in the middle of the plates. The operation generates a phenomenon which goes under the name of viscous fi ngering. The goal is to develop a highly effi cient numerical tool that quickly allows intensive testing, through the use of a multigrid method. Once the tool is built, it will be used for a first attempt to viscous fingering control through pulsating mass injection. The hope is that the pulses will prevent the formation of elongated and branched structures. This kind of analysis is new, and has considerable advantages with respect to the methods used nowadays. The particular field of study also reveals interesting possibilities of future development in various engineering areas.

Abstract
The particular field of study also reveals interesting possibilities of future development in various engineering areas.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
