Several satellites produced by Thales Alenia Space, a French-Italian company, presents some faulty reaction wheels, unable to perform the 3-axis attitude stabilization of the satellite. The object of this work is to determine whether a 3-axis magnetic attitude control fulfilling the pointing requirements could be implemented, using only the magnetic-actuators present on-board, and which type of control would be more appropriate to pursue these objectives. The literature on magnetic attitude control will orient toward two main type of control, Model Predictive Control and Periodic Optimal Control, and the implementation of these two control laws will be described in this thesis. Both will then be tested on simulators, to determine which is more suitable for a future development and implementation on the defective satellites. Finally, a comparison of the two implemented controllers will be presented, enlightening a clear advantage for the Periodic Optimal Control.

Abstract
Finally, a comparison of the two implemented controllers will be presented, enlightening a clear advantage for the Periodic Optimal Control.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
