Progetti per Genova. Cardine di nuove relazioni e riassetto produttivo

Genoa is a city of contrasts, sometimes of extremes. It is a city of surprises. For example, it is a city of art and yet it is also an industrial city. It is the largest Italian port but has crowded beaches in Corso Italia, glass skyscrapers and medieval towers, business centers and villages remained intact. It is a "vertical" city for the height of its buildings and the narrowness of its alleys, the "caruggi", and its "creuze", the narrow streets that go up the heights. It is a city of contrasts in the light, or uncertain in the perpetual shadow of its most intimate alleys. It has always been a crossroads of cultures and peoples. Genoa is also a reserved and reserved city. He loves being known little by little and then giving everyone the charm of discovery and almost always the emotion of wonder. In recent years, Genoa has been welcoming the challenge of consolidating what from an economic, social and cultural point of view is a problematic reality for a long time. Evolving by addressing the opportunities and challenges of the 21st century, such as globalization, migration, economic and social change, can only happen by simultaneously bringing into play the irreversible weight of history, the invasion and inertia of the past and present city and a vision of the future city ambitious but not unattainable, fl exible but anchored to values ​​of urban coexistence easily communicable, recognizable in its uniqueness but able to evolve continuously. These assumptions allow us to understand the complexity of the design theme dealt with in these two years of work. The dif fi culty of the context, the riches of the place and the critical infrastructures were only the main ones, of the numerous challenges faced during the whole journey. "Hinge of new relationships and productive reorganization" wants to be a project based on different territorial scales and to solve the different problems that derive from each of them. In fact, the master plan provides for a large-scale infrastructural rehabilitation, interventions on an urban scale related to the market and the park, and minor interventions such as those of the sports center. The aim of the work was therefore to try to rediscover and enhance the original features of the Genoese context, promoting the idea of ​​an integrated metropolitan, multipolar city, which is supported by adequate internal mobility, making the distinction between center and periphery, consolidating the prized features of each municipality and achieving widespread urban quality.

Genova è città di contrasti, a volte di estremi. È città di sorprese. Ad esempio è città d’arte eppure è anche città industriale. È il più grande porto italiano ma ha spiagge affollate in corso Italia, grattacieli di vetro e torri medioevali, centri direzionali e borghi rimasti intatti. È città “verticale” per l’altezza dei suoi palazzi e la ristrettezza dei suoi vicoli, i “caruggi”, e delle sue “creuze”, le stradine che risalgono le alture. È città di contrasti nella luce, oppure incerta nell’ombra perenne dei suoi vicoli più intimi. È città da sempre crocevia di culture e di popoli. Genova è anche una città schiva e riservata. Ama farsi conoscere poco a poco per poi regalare a tutti il fascino della scoperta e quasi sempre l’emozione della meraviglia. Genova in questi anni sta accogliendo la sfida di consolidare quella che da un punto di vista economico, sociale e culturale, è una realtà da tempo problematica. Evolversi affrontando le opportunità e sfide proprie del 21° secolo, come globalizzazione, migrazioni, mutamenti economici e sociali, può avvenire solamente mettendo in gioco contemporaneamente il peso irreversibile della storia, l’invadenza e l’inerzia della città passata e presente e una visione della città futura ambiziosa ma non irrealizzabile, flessibile ma ancorata a valori di convivenza urbana facilmente comunicabili, riconoscibile nella sua unicità ma in grado di evolvere continuamente. Questi presupposti permettono di comprendere la complessità del tema progettuale affrontato in questi due anni di lavoro. Le difficoltà del contesto, le ricchezzze del luogo e le criticità infrastrutturali sono state soltanto le principali, delle numerose sfide dovute affrontare durante tutto il percorso. “Cardine di nuove relazioni e riassetto produttivo” vuole essere un progetto improntato contemporaneamente su diverse scale territoriali e risolvere le differenti problematiche che derivano da ognuna di esse. Il masterplan prevede infatti una ristemazione infrastrutturale ad ampia scala, interventi a scala urbana relativi all’ortomercato e al parco, ed interventi minori come quelli del polo sportivo. L’obiettivo del lavoro è stato dunque quello di tentare di riscoprire e valorizzare i caratteri originari del contesto genovese, promuovendo l’idea di una città metropolitana, multipolare integrata, che sia sostenuta da una mobilità interna adeguata, facendo sfumare la distinzione tra centro e periferia, consolidando le funzioni pregiate di ogni municipio e raggiungere una diffusa qualità urbana.
