Emerge. Architecture as a symbol and instrument for cultural expression, identity and social progress

The thesis deals with the identity crisis that the Republic of Macedonia is currently experiencing. Being a country that is in the heart of the Balkans, it has always suffered from the greediness of its neighbors. At the time of the idea of addressing this subject, the country was once again threatened with having to change its name. Unfortunately, today the law has been approved, obviously without the consent of the citizens, and the changes have begun. What this paper wants to address is that the problem of identity is not meant only as a nominal thing, which implies a problem existing only in the name of the country, but a much deeper and profound problem, which starts from the very roots of the country. A question arises: where does the identity of a country come from? Unfortunately, in the case of Macedonia, we cannot rely on history, since it is one of the factors generating the problem, but we need to find something that is linked to it, but much stronger and closer to people, their culture.

La tesi affronta la crisi d’identità che la Repubblica di Macedonia sta attualmente attraversando. Essendo un paese che si trova nel cuore die Balcani, ha sempre sofferto dell’avidità dei vicini che lo circondano. Al momento dell’idea di affrontare questo discorso, il paese era minacciato ancora una volta di dover cambiare il proprio nome. Purtroppo, oggi la legge è stata approvata, ovviamente senza il consenso dei cittadini, e i cambiamenti sono iniziati. Quello che questo elaborato vuole affrontare è che il problema dell’identità non è intesa solo come una cosa nominale, che implica un problema esistente soltanto nel nome del paese, ma un problema molto più grave e profondo, che parte dalle radici stesse del paese. Si pone la domanda: da dove proviene l’identità di un paese? Purtroppo, nel caso della Macedonia, non ci si può appoggiare alla storia, essendo essa uno dei fattori generanti del problema, ma bisogna trovare qualcosa che è legato ad essa, ma molto più forte e vicino alle persone, la loro cultura.
