Abstract
Saint Petersburg, or Northern Palmyra as it was known during the XIX century or Leningrad, as it was world-wide known in Soviet times. Simply “Peter” for the ones having it as home-city. A city born to overlook the future thanks to its road-network strictly connected to the Palace of the Imperial Institutions. A Urban structure involved in the growth of the metropolitan area along the ending of Modern-Times, the beginning of The Industrial-Era, the rising of the Soviet Revolution and the re-birth of the City in the Post-Communist Decades. Today, Saint Petersburg has newly found its heritage of being a Northern Capital-City, but at the same time, it is facing the contemporary meaning of being a Metropolitan-City, physically connected to its region, and virtually with the rest of the World. Due to the previous considerations it seems Saint Petersburg has lost its own identity in the gentrification process, which is as strong as in the rest of the Continental-Capitols. According to the situation, the priority is going back to the future. The design resumes a plot (Obnovdy-canal area) as a study-case to experiment a method focused on public-space. A frame-work using Typologies, Dimensions, Morphologies, Land-Use, Weather-condition/Climate to restore Russian tradition for dwelling, able to arrange a design recognizes in the Palace-squares its archetype: an enclosure, even if hidden.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
