The project area is located on the northern tip of the island of Ortigia, the historic center of the city of Syracuse. The project that this thesis proses is a new museum which has the aim of redeveloping an area which, at its current state, is degraded and occupied by a covered car park in reinforced concrete: the Talete car park. The new complex aims to make the area a more usable and quality space, with more public services directed to the city In relation to the island of Ortigia the new museum center presents itself as a large public space between the great construction density of the historic center and the sea. The formal and distributional configuration of the buildings takes up the main directions of the context, gathering together the most important directions coming from the ancient city. The two main buildings, located at the end of the intervention area, enhance the direction parallel to the sea, outlining a well-defined and orthogonal internal organisation. The building located further north stands out from the previous one thanks to its dual directionality. In fact, in addition to relating to the other museum building located in the south, it seeks to connect to the city, the Umbertino district and the Palazzo delle Poste, thus becoming an important hub for the two systems. These two buildings, located at the end of the project area, contain exclusively museum and exhibition functions. A water square is designed between the two main buildings, cut by some walkways which, in turn, are the extension of the main axes of the city. Some of these are enhanced by some platforms that make the square a place for recreational and collective use, also capable of hosting different types of events, from swimming competitions to film festivals. This open space guarantees a privileged view of the sea and the Syracuse coast. In addition to the two main buildings, there is a third building which, through its stick shape, recalls the idea of a seaside promenade as it has a long portico on the northern front. Finally, the intervention involves the arrangement and expansion of the park adjacent to the ancient walls and the repaving of the surrounding areas.

Abstract
Finally, the intervention involves the arrangement and expansion of the park adjacent to the ancient walls and the repaving of the surrounding areas.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
