Over the last century, we have witnessed a growing identification of the urban development with the activities of production, consumption and destruction, typical of the capitalist manufacturing system. The architecture, in its parable from the modern movement to postmodern, celebrated the paradigm of consumerist growth and the creative destruction on which it is based, producing a series of trends among which it is easy to identify references to the machine, product, goods, brand, image and to the simulacrum. The consumption of land, resources and energy shows today its consequences. The appearance of abandoned territories, industrial activities ceasing or even migrating elsewhere, public works remaining incomplete, cities starting to decrease calls architecture’s attention and back to the intervention on the Existing. However, definitions such as restoration, re-use, requalification, very well known to the architectural debate, turn out not to be adequate to describe the phenomenon specificity which, compared to the past, shows peculiar characteristics. The term Recycle is getting more and more employed in the debate to make up for the lack of terminology. In it we distinguish the contemporary ecologist obsession regarding the issue of waste management and we perceive a particular attention to existing constructions which increasingly assume the traits of waste. The openness of the term Recycle to diverse interpretations makes it suitable to gather a great number of different attitudes thanks to the common trait of attention to the concept of waste. Among these attitudes we can find proper architectural interventions and other more spontaneous and informal practices, sprung up from self-organized collective actions. Despite this extent and inclusiveness, there are interventions that begin to base their figurative identity in being the result of an activity of recycling. It is therefore necessary to subject this phenomenon to a critical exam to understand what might be the categorical changes in which architecture is pushed. This changes would have an even greater impact in the event we are witnessing the emergence of a trend.

Abstract
This changes would have an even greater impact in the event we are witnessing the emergence of a trend.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
