The project explained in this thesis aims to show a development model for the Expo 2015 area and present the design of a football stadium inside it. Concerning the masterplan, it shows a new sport department fully integrated in the environmental system of the north-western side of Milano. The project integrates the legacy identifiers of the Expo area and enhance them: the whole area is designed starting from the Cardo, the Decumano and the distribution grid. The purpose of the project is to reclassifymost of the buildingsin the Expo area like the Expo Center, Padiglione Zero,Roserio’s Post Office, Palazzo Italia and Open Air Theatre. The actual water collection structure is maintained only when the streamflow is not managed by any forced outlet system. The built-up section is located along the southern edge of the project and its specific layout allows the sport department to have a relevant position that mark out the whole area. The 8Days Stadium is a concave and pervious building. Four covered areas characterize the Zero Floor; in these spaces nature and architecture interact each other and the volume emptiness enhance the relevancy of naturein terms of visibility and capability to take a dominant role inside the architectural landscape. The pavilions at Zero Floor are still open to the public during the days off. In this way the building can take a relevant part into the everyday life of all the citizens. Four corner walls border the cavea space. They are located at the vertices of the base rectangle and their function is to empty off the extruded parallelepipedvolume from the original shape. The inner space of the building is also characterized by four turrets placed at the very top of the corner walls: they sustain the grandstand roof as well as hold up all the lighting equipment. The environmental quality of the masterplan and the variety of uses that mark out the Zero Floor of the stadium will allow the Expo area to have a better integration with the landscape as well as being a landmark for all the north-western side of Milano.
