Unique example of a suburban residence, Villa Adriana was built for the emperor Hadrian between 118 and 138 AD. Even today, the complex appears as an immense natural park, within which there are rich architectures, creative water features and an enchanting natural panorama that have, over the centuries, fascinated and inspired illustrious scholars and artists from all over the world. The project developed by this thesis aims to make the Villa Adriana site fully enjoyable through an intervention divided into two phases: the first focuses on the scale of the landscape project and concerns the redevelopment of the UNESCO Buffer Zone, an area with the function of a protective environment and, at the same time, a filter area of the spaces pertaining to Hadrian's residence; the second instead concerns the scale of the archaeological monument of the Villa and intends to bring the thermal functions back into use. The redevelopment of the UNESCO Buffer Zone includes the construction of a new entrance that opens a pedestrian path through the horti. This itinerary favors a deep exchange with the natural environment which allows for further enrichment and a possibility of connection between landscape and architecture. The construction of the new thermal establishment is also an occasion for the restoration of the building currently hosting the Antiquarium, near the Canopus area. The rearrangement of this space and the non-invasive reconstruction of the lost areas are arranged. The overall idea is to give new light to the ruins by building ambitious constructions in accordance with the pre-existing architecture, commissioned by the Emperor. Therefore, integrate the previous works but above all continue to give voice to those apparently abstract and intangible concepts that the Emperor Hadrian implemented by giving us this majestic urban complex.

Abstract
Therefore, integrate the previous works but above all continue to give voice to those apparently abstract and intangible concepts that the Emperor Hadrian implemented by giving us this majestic urban complex.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
