Abitare Caracas. Progetto di rigenerazione urbana e architetture dell'abitare

The Master Thesis takes place in a complex and heterogeneous city as Caracas. The final project is the result of a cognitive process that allowed to comprehend and interpreted the reality of the context in order to propound a conscious modification. The objective of the project is to identify a possible and sustainable development model for the city. In this case the main point of sustainable is based on the role of public space and the possibility of collaboration between public and private, working on the relation among open spaces and built spaces, and re-establishing the terms of coexistence between nature and artifice. The intention is to build spaces that can guarantee a better quality of life. In this regard a part of the regeneration project is about insert a new residence model in which different activities, spaces and users can coexist, in order to heal the conflicts that the heterogeneity brings to the context and enhance its potential. These conflicts are not just a Caracas reality, but are presents in others contemporary cities. In cities in which the development doesn’t leave space to quality and humanity this project could represent a valid alternative. Caracas is a divide city, the population needs solutions that can reduce the social differences, demolish the mental and physical barriers, a project that helps to bring sense of belonging that is essential to combat the insecurity that rules today. In this way the masterplan involve the reuse of some existing buildings, trace new relationships and updates the use of the urban spaces for a better articulation. The residential building combines different housing typologies and several spaces for the meeting and exchange, allowing the coexistence of the different types of users. The master thesis project is at the end also a research for identifying the right balance between human needs and the request of renewal that characterizes the unstable contemporary urban forms.
