The key elements in construction to promote the sustainability of urban settlements and building activities are: the reuse and redevelopment of existing buildings; the reduction of free land consumption; maintenance and prevention of urban and building degradation; sustainable management; the protection of historical heritage; the design of long-lived buildings and artifacts, therefore flexible and adaptable to different future needs. Animated by this spirit, I elaborated the project that follows, intervening massively in the southern part of the city of Monza, from the historic center up to the edge of the city towards Sesto San Giovanni in the areas between Via Borgazzi and Via Milano on one side and the are of the former Municipal Slaughterhouse and the Cascinazza area on the other side. This operation has a total length of about 1.80 km in a north-south direction and about km. 1.10 for a surface extension of about 70 hectares. The modern illusion of replacing old cities from their foundations has proved impossible: the urban future with which we have to deal is to a large extent given by existing contexts; it is a matter of repairing, reusing, recycling what already exists and working on its continuous changes. The project therefore aims to intervene on existing areas within the urban fabric that appear to be abandoned or in an advanced state of degradation. These areas are dead areas for the city as there is no longer any activity or they are used far below the potential they could express. However, the final aim is twofold. On the one hand there is the need to give back to the city these spaces, nowadays considered to be foreign bodies or “urban voids” from a functional point of view, to allow their use by residents and by possible external users. On the other hand, there is the search for a solution to some critical issues within the city itself, such as the mending of the fracture that originated in the urban fabric on the arrival of the railway from Milan that split this part of the city into two distinct parts hardly in communication with each other. This barrier has also brought with it other problems such as an increase in traffic crossing the city in an east-west direction also attributable to the various urban planning interventions, which have followed one another over the years and have not been unitary, which had to lead to a resolution of the issue.

Abstract
This barrier has also brought with it other problems such as an increase in traffic crossing the city in an east-west direction also attributable to the various urban planning interventions, which have followed one another over the years and have not been unitary, which had to lead to a resolution of the issue.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
